For anyone that follows me on Spotify – it’s no secret that I listen to film scores more often than any other music. Pull back a headphone from my ears at work, and you most likely will hear a melancholy ballad from “Meet Joe Black” or “Big Fish.” There’s something about the way this particular genre draws me in – transforming administrative tasks into epic adventures. Turning brainstorming into epiphanies.
The power of a film score does so much more than just aid the movie it is placed in. And, although there are hundreds of inspiring scores to discover, below are my top 10:
10. “Main Title” by James Horner (Braveheart)
9.“We Bought a Zoo” by Jonsi (We Bought a Zoo)
8. “The Gravel Road” by James Newton Howard (The Village)
7. “My Name is Lincoln” by Steve Jablonsky (The Island)
6. “Ice Dance” by Danny Elfman (Edward Scissorhands)
5. “Any Other Name” by Thomas Newman (American Beauty)
4. “The Wardrobe” by Harry Gregson-Williams (Chronicles of Narnia)
3. “The Breaking of the Fellowship” by Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings)
2. “The Bioluminescence Of The Night” by James Horner (Avatar)
1. “Concerning Hobbits” by Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings)
also, the entire scores from “gravity,” “requiem for a dream,” “the last of the mohicans,” “american beauty,” and “titanic.” all gorgeous as well!
